let's tap into their story!

In 2011, two mega beer enthusiasts - Meg Gill and Tony Yanow - founded Golden Road Brewing to bring top-quality flavourful beers to LA’s beer market in the most sustainable way possible. The brewery takes its inspiration from the local communities in LA, as well as the rich cultures that intermingle in the different neighbourhoods.
After earning a degree in Classics at Yale University, Gill met Dale Katechis, the owner of the pioneering Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, Colo., who introduced her to the whole craft beer business. Gill never would have thought that craft brewing would enter her life, given that she had never even set one foot in the beer industry before all this. Yes, she was proficient in Greek and Latin, she was captain of her swim team, and was even dabbling in triathlons, but beer? No - not until Dale Katechis that is.
At Oskar Blues, Gill learnt how to brew and package beers; she was also sent to do events, chat with customers, and eventually learnt the tips and tricks of marketing in the beer business. Later, while working at Speakeasy Ales and Lagers in San Francisco, Gill made another important connection - this time with Tony Yanow.

The two passionate beer lovers quickly hit it off and decided to start a brewery together, but realising their dreams was tough. Yanow had to take out a second mortgage on his house to help fund their brewery and even then, the two had to face rejection after rejection from multiple venture capitalists and investors. However, Gill and Yanow did it. They launched Golden Road Brewing in 2011, and it became one of the fastest-growing craft breweries!

Golden Road’s brews delicious beers

In order to become successful, Gill and Yanow realised that they needed to have excellent beer. The two hired former Dogfish Head assistant brewer Jon Carpenter and worked carefully with 30 bars and the biggest distributors in L.A. to build a strong branding. With the help of the community and most importantly, amazing beers, Golden Road is now one of the leading breweries in L.A.

One of Golden Road’s flagship beers is the Mango Cart Wheat Ale, the first in Golden Road’s new series inspired by the iconic fruit cart vendors of L.A.! The delicious fruity drink has notes of sweet ripe mangoes balanced by the refreshing and aromatic wheat malts.

Golden Road today

In 2015, Anheuser-Busch InBev acquired Golden Road Brewing, making it the largest craft brewery in Los Angeles. The acquisition was controversial among some craft beer enthusiasts, who felt that the sale to a multinational corporation went against the spirit of the craft beer movement.

However, despites its acquisition, Golden Road Brewing continues to do what it has been doing since its founding - brewing good beers. The acquisition merely allows Golden Road to expand its bars, restaurants, and production breweries with the help of Anheuser-Busch and its resources!
