George already had experience with handling breweries, given that he was overseeing both the Dudley and Victoria Breweries. Thus, it came as no surprise that he was able to steer all three breweries back on track, and even merged all three together in 1890 to push them further. And so, in the Spring of 1890, Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries Ltd. was formed as a public company made up of three local brewing businesses.
During the 1960s, like many large regional breweries, the company expanded into selling other products, including Romanoff vodka, Harp lager, and Kronenbourg. Following the acquisition of several breweries, the company went on to acquire and control 2,300 breweries and pubs, with Mansfield and Cameron as notable purchases, by the end of the millennium.
Banks’s Brewery eventually settled down under Marston’s and has continued brewing its iconic beers since!
