I'm proof that you can always make the best out of a bad situation. I was born in 1240, when epidemics spread widely through contaminated water in the villages of Belgium. The Premonstratensian Fathers that live in my abbey held a meeting on a subject that concerned all of the town's inhabitants: how can they purify the contaminated water? After giving it some serious thought, the monks came to the idea of using a process they know only too well... by turning water into beer! Before long, thousands of locals were enjoying the pleasures of a deep, dark beer – me.
Today, I am a quintessential Belgian Brown Ale that is highly sought-after around the world. I am perfectly balanced between a discreetly bitter yet slightly caramelised flavour that can only be ascribed to age-old traditions. Hints of coffee and chocolate provide me with an even more desirable flavour. When served in a glass, my smooth and creamy beer head will emit roasted spice aromas which has the ability to suspend time.

Founded in the 12th century, Leffe is one of the world's most recognisable Belgian beers and understandably so – it's had more than 800, albeit tumultuous years to build a brand and nail its quality. Using knowledge passed from generation to generation and ingredients found in the wild near the abbey, they had developed unique ales with a subtle taste and high alcohol content.
