Belgian Strong Dark Ale | 330ml | ABV 8.5%
Brewed by the Brasserie Huyghe, the Delirium Nocturnum is seen as the dark sister of the famous Delirium Tremens, the worldwide famous beer that made the brewery, in business since 1654, famous. The Delirium Nocturnum was born in 1999 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Delirium Tremens. It pours a dark red to brown colour topped by a compact and long-lasting beige head. One will smell very pleasant malty aromas with notes of caramel, mocha and chocolate followed by fruity hints and spicy touches of liquorice and pepper. Once on the palate, it appears very malty with complex flavors, both roasted and bitter. However, the whole remains sweet thanks to the presence of malt and turns bitterer throughout the tasting because of the hops. Notes of liquorice, chocolate along with certain bitterness can be perceived whereas the presence of alcohol is obvious from the beginning to the end. The aftertaste left is a nice balance between winey and malty features.
