AVERY BREWING CO

let's tap into their story!

Founded by father-and-son team Larry and Adam Avery in Boulder, Colorado, Avery Brewing started as a small homebrew operation in Adam's garage. Adam was obsessed with homebrewing; he was constantly brewing 3 batches of beer at any given time. He knew he was making more than he could drink, but all he wanted to do was experiment with as many different styles as he could.
Like many of us, Adam hit a quarter-life crisis. Adam was accepted into law school, but his rock-climbing partners (who were also lawyers) told him that if he had a passion outside of law, he should pursue that passion instead. Thanks to his climbing partners’ words of encouragement, Adam decided to give it a shot. He quickly drew up a business plan and opened Avery Brewing Co with his father in 1993.

Avery’s funky and experimental brews!

One of the key factors that set Avery Brewing apart from other craft breweries at the time was their focus on high-gravity beers. These are beers with a high alcohol content, often above 8% ABV, which require a lot of skill and expertise to brew successfully.

One of Avery Brewing's first high-gravity beers was The Maharaja - an India Pale Ale that quickly became a cult favourite among craft beer enthusiasts. The Maharaja - a Sanskrit title for “great king” - asserts his authority over a deranged amount of tangy, vibrant, and intense hops along with an equally insane amount of malted barley. The majestic IPA welcomes you into its kingdom with its dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence!
Over the years, Avery Brewing has continued to innovate and experiment with new beer styles and flavours. It was one of the first breweries to embrace barrel-aged beers, ageing their beers in bourbon, rum, tequila, and fresh irish whiskey barrels to add complex flavours and aromas.

Today, Avery Brewing is known for its wide range of beers, from Belgian-style white ales like White Rascal and IPAs like Avery IPA, to more experimental barrel-aged brews. One of Avery’s most popular barrel-aged beers is the Fimbulvvinter, a rum barrel-aged Belgian-style Quintuple that clocks in at a whopping 16.9% ABV.

An inspirational craft beer force of the century

Since its inception in 1993, Avery Brewing Company has been pushing the boundaries of craft beer, constantly experimenting with new ingredients, flavours, and techniques to create some of the most innovative and delicious beers on the market.

At its core, Avery Brewing Company is a testament to the power of curiosity and passion. From its humble beginnings - featuring a pre-law school teen in a quarter-life crisis - to its status as a pioneering force in craft beer, Avery Brewing is a testament to the boundless possibilities of brewing and the spirit of innovation that drives the craft beer industry forward.
