Batch Brewing Company is an Inner West-based, Australian microbrewery located in Sydney, and it is known for its unique, handcrafted, small batch beers. The brewery was founded in 2013 by Chris Sidwa and Andrew Fineran, two friends who shared a passion for craft beer and wanted to establish their own brewery.

Back then, Sidwa and Fineran wanted to experiment with a lot of different beer styles and ended up brewing a great deal of beers - not in volume per say, but in batches. Perhaps the brewery’s name, Batch Brewing Co, could have clued you in on Sidwa and Fineran’s brewing ideals and goals, as producing high-quality, small-batch beers is their main objective.

The two were largely inspired by the creativity and experimentation aspect of brewing, and wanted to bring that same spirit to their own brewery. Thankfully, Sidwa and Fineran’s dream - Batch Brewing - was widely supported by their community. The two started an equity crowdfunding campaign that raised $1.5 million just a day after the campaign went public!

Today, Batch continues to stay true to this spirit by being astonishingly prolific. Batch’s brewing team is amongst the most fertile in the country, with hundreds of recipes having been brewed. The brewery creates approximately one beer on average every 5 days - as opposed to one new beer every 10 days previously!

In 2019, Batch opened a second site, but not for the reason you might think. Many breweries open a second venue to drastically increase production capacity and widen distribution, but Batch ain’t like other breweries! Batch’s motivation for opening a second venue - appropriately named “Small Batch'' - is simply to produce even more batches of beer. In fact, the brewery scaled back production to a mere 350 litres per brew just so that they can create and experiment with more flavours and styles of beer.

Batch’s commitment to the environment and its community

Besides brewing batch after batch of delicious beers, the brewery is also committed to minimising the impact it does to its environment. Batch carefully sources its raw materials: its base malt comes from the nearby Riverina region of New South Wales, while its specialty grains are grown and malted in the pristine barley growing region of Canterbury on the South Island of New Zealand.

In addition, Batch uses a carbon offset scheme for vehicle fuel and electricity, recycles and repurposes its waste, and installed solar panels for green energy. The brewery is also heavily involved in the community and contributes to charities nominated by customers and staff members.

Batch’s core range!

We’ve established that Batch has produced countless unique beers since its birth that’ll leave you spoilt for choice. However, if you’re a little on the indecisive side, don’t worry, as the brewery also has a core range.

Starting with the American Pale Ale, Batch’s first and original beer has a sessionable balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness, complete with a bright citrus aroma. With further experimentation, the silky smooth Elsie The Milk Stout was born. The stout’s robust coffee and chocolate flavours are a potent combination suitable for both cold winters and hot summers.

After discovering the crisp refreshment of kettle soured ale and how it's the perfect base for carrying fruit flavours and aroma, Pash The Magic Dragon was born. The delicious passionfruit and dragon fruit-infused beer has a vibrant fruit aroma that’ll leave you refreshed and craving for more!

Batch Brewing Co is truly one of the most innovative breweries in Australia, with its countless different brews that are not only delicious but also excitingly unique. We can only anticipate the many tasty brews Batch will continue churning out for many, many years to come!
