In 2002, Bill decided to use his acquired skills and natural-born talents to create a craft brewery with the help of his brother, John. Two years later, the brothers found a former margarine factory, and started constructing the original brewery with second-hand equipment. While the original kit has now been replaced with state-of-the-art German equipment, Gage Roads still calls that former margarine factory home.

Gage Roads was named after the strip of ocean that separates Rottnest Island and Fremantle; a tribute to the place if you will. The brewery has always had a deep connection to its roots, and it prides itself in being independent and Australian owned.

Meanwhile, the brewery's Little Dove New World Pale Ale has an intense tropical nectar aroma, and was crowned champion Australian Beer at the 2016 Australian International Beer Awards.

Gage Roads started out with an ethos of independence and freedom, and to this day, such a culture is still alive and well within its business. The brewery not only cares about its beers, but it also cares about its people. In fact, 20% of its shares are employee-owned!
