I am the Duchesse de Bourgogne — a ruby-red jewel, brewed with nobility, aged with grace.
Born in the heart of West Flanders, I’m a proud embodiment of the region’s centuries-old brewing traditions. My name honors Mary of Burgundy, a 15th-century duchess revered in the town of Vichte, where the Verhaeghe family has crafted their beloved Flemish red-brown ales for four generations. Mary, remembered for championing the rights of her people and supporting brewers, lives on through every bottle that bears her image — and through me.
Brewed with deeply roasted malts and aged hops low in bitterness, my character is shaped by the art of mixed fermentation and long months of oak cask aging. My soul is complex: a sweet, fruity richness balanced by a bright, tangy freshness, thanks to the tannins drawn from those barrels. Each glass carries notes of cherry, balsamic, red currant, and oak — a harmonious dance of flavors that’s both regal and approachable.
I'm a taste of Flemish history, fit for royalty, brewed for everyone.

Verhaeghe Brewery is a family-owned Belgian brewery located in Vichte, West Flanders. The brewery was founded in 1885 by Paul Verhaeghe and continues to be run by the 4th generation of Verhaeghes today. Despite multiple setbacks wrought by the world wars, Verhaeghe managed to pick up the pieces and re-establish itself on the market. Verhaeghe Brewery’s greatest success is the Duchesse de Bourgogne - a Flemish Red Ale that was named in honour of Duchess Mary of Burgundy, the only daughter of Charles the Bold. Today, the brewery continues to thrive in spite of Karl’s horrific traffic accident as well as the declining demand for Flemish Red-Brown ales.
