My story begins in 1240, behind the quiet stone walls of the Leffe Abbey, where the Premonstratensian canons brewed beer not for profit, but for purpose — to offer safe, nourishing drink in a time when water was often dangerous. Their wisdom flowed through every drop, and for centuries, their beer sustained pilgrims, villagers, and weary travellers alike.
But like many abbey breweries, I fell silent during the French Revolution. My cellars went dark, my barrels dry — until 1952, when Father Abbot Nys and brewer Albert Lootvoet reignited the flame. Together, they revived the sacred recipe, and I — Leffe Blonde — was reborn. Since then, I’ve carried the spirit of the abbey in every radiant pour.
With notes of vanilla, clove, and gentle spice, I balance sweet malt and soft bitterness in a way that’s refined yet familiar. My golden body glows like candlelight in a chapel, and at 6.6% ABV, I bring quiet strength. Enjoy me with cheese, seafood, or simply good company — for I am more than a beer. I am a chapter of history in your glass.

The history of Leffe started way back in 1152, where Premonstratensian canonical Norbertines, like monks, lived in the Notre-Dame de Leffe Abbey. Back then, water was unsafe for consumption due to numerous epidemics. However, in 1240, the canons found the perfect solution; they started brewing beer as a safer alternative to water for travellers and pilgrims. Although Leffe had faced multiple hardships and even had to temporarily cease its operations for years, it managed to get back on its feet. Today, Leffe produces iconic and world-renowned Belgian beers that are painstakingly crafted with the recipes passed from generation to generation, and also with the time-old brewing traditions from the 12th century!
