In 1991, deep within the sacred walls of Koningshoeven Abbey, I was quietly unveiled — the world’s first-ever Quadrupel. My name would go on to define an entire style, but I remain rooted in tradition, crafted with reverence and guarded care. I am the original heavyweight, born in secrecy and brewed with soul.
Amber and glowing, crowned with a creamy head, I open with sweet aromas of raisins, vanilla, banana, and cloves. One sip and the warmth begins — rich, malty depths unfold into caramelised dates, roasted nuts, and a subtle spice that lingers long after the glass is empty. I’m full-bodied, intense, yet impossibly smooth — a comforting presence in every season.

La Trappe is one of the 11 Trappist Breweries in the world with the Authentic Trappist Product (ATP) logo on their beers. The brewery was founded in 1884 by a group of French Trappist monks from the Koningshoeven Abbey who sought refuge in the moorlands of Berkel-Enschot. The monks established the brewery in order to generate funds for the upkeep of the monastery, as well as for the construction of a new brewery. Today, La Trappe is a greatly respected brewery, thanks to its highly unique, richly flavoured, and authentic ales, alongside its commitment to social responsibility and sustainability!
