More About Me

I was brewed in 1987 as a classic Dubbel ale produced within the walls of the Koningshoeven Abbey – one of the only two Trappist monasteries in The Netherlands.

As the most famous among the La Trappe beers, I am a fully malty and deliciously caramel-ish dark brown beer that's reminiscent of dates, honey, and dried fruit. I offer fruity scents with warm notes of vanilla, toffee, and roasted chocolate, which explains why I'm so irresistible. I ferment within my bottle to offer an intense and complex bittersweet balance along with a smooth finish.

La Trappe, Koningshoeven Brewery

La Trappe is the name of the beer brewed in Koningshoeven, the first Trappist brewery in the Netherlands. The abbey was founded by an order of monks in the late 19th century and was esetablished to generate funds for the construction and upkeep the brotherhood's monastery. Originally, the monks brewed beer out of necessity, using traditional recipies that they have been developing since 1884. The resulting ales were highly unique, authentic, richly flavoured and so well-received that the small enterprise eventually turned into the internally recognised brewery that they are today.
