I am the world's first Quadrupel beer, born in 1991 within The Netherland's first Trappist brewery, the Koningshoeven Abbey. I was a closely guarded recipe for years before the monks managed to perfect me, so when I was released to the world, I had plans to dominate.
I am the heaviest beer among the La Trappe brews and back then the strongest in all of Europe. I pour a deep amber-brown with an ivory-coloured foam head that offers sweet aromas of vanilla, raisins, and banana. I am full-bodied and intensely flavourful with notes of dates, caramel, clove, nuts, and hops. I finish with smooth and warming with a slightly bitter aftertaste. I can develop and benefit from more ageing, but also equally delicious when fresh. Pour me into a glass to enjoy!

La Trappe is the name of the beer brewed in Koningshoeven, the first Trappist brewery in the Netherlands. The abbey was founded by an order of monks in the late 19th century and was esetablished to generate funds for the construction and upkeep the brotherhood's monastery. Originally, the monks brewed beer out of necessity, using traditional recipies that they have been developing since 1884. The resulting ales were highly unique, authentic, richly flavoured and so well-received that the small enterprise eventually turned into the internally recognised brewery that they are today.
