First brewed in 1995, I was born from the legacy of Pater Lieven, a kind-hearted Flemish monk known for his life of compassion and service. I, the Pater Lieven Blond, carry his name with pride — a symbol of quiet strength and tradition passed down through generations of Van den Bossche brewers in East Flanders. With each bottle, I honour the spirit of Belgian abbey-style brewing, reinterpreted for today’s drinker.
Gaze upon my clear, golden body and you’ll find brightness and clarity, both literal and metaphorical. I open with a delicate bouquet of citrus zest, peach, and white flowers, underscored by a soft spiciness. My flavour walks a fine line: a gentle malt sweetness balanced by a crisp, citrusy hop bitterness that refreshes rather than overwhelms.
With a medium body, refined carbonation, and a clean, dry finish, I’m elegant yet easygoing — a versatile blonde ale suited for quiet reflection, lively conversation, or anything in between.
Van den Bossche Brewery is a family-run brewery which is still currently run by the 4th generation of Van den Bossche - Bruno. The brewery was founded in 1897, when Arthur Van den Bossche purchased a plot of land in Sint-Lievens-Esse and built a brewery and a chocolaterie there. Though the brewery’s first iconic brew was created via a young apprentice’s mistake, the rest of its beers continued the legacy of its first signature beer - the Buffalo Stout. In honour of the Sint Livinus festivities, Van den Bossche Brewery created the Pater Lieven range of authentic abbey beers that contributed widely to its success. Today, the brewery continues to brew delicious and flavourful beers that everyone can enjoy!
