Brewed by the fourth-generation family-owned Brouwerij Van den Bossche in Sint-Lievens-Esse, I, the Pater Lieven Tripel, am the crown jewel of the Pater Lieven range — a beer inspired by the enduring legacy of Father Lieven, a humble 11th-century monk known for his charity and care for the people. Since 1995, I’ve carried his name proudly, honoring both the spiritual roots of Belgian brewing and the craftsmanship that defines this style.
I shine a radiant gold in the glass, capped with a billowy white head that hints at the effervescence within. My aroma is an intricate tapestry of ripe orchard fruits, spicy esters, and herbal warmth, setting the stage for a flavor that’s at once refined and robust. Expect notes of honey-drizzled apples, citrus zest, and soft clove, layered atop a rich malt foundation. A lively carbonation lifts my 8% strength with grace, finishing in a dry, lightly bitter finale that leaves the palate clean and intrigued.
Whether you’re pairing me with roast chicken, creamy cheeses, or simply enjoying me by candlelight, I promise a soulful, slow-sipping experience worthy of my monastic lineage. Here’s to the past, present, and every sip in between.
Van den Bossche Brewery is a family-run brewery which is still currently run by the 4th generation of Van den Bossche - Bruno. The brewery was founded in 1897, when Arthur Van den Bossche purchased a plot of land in Sint-Lievens-Esse and built a brewery and a chocolaterie there. Though the brewery’s first iconic brew was created via a young apprentice’s mistake, the rest of its beers continued the legacy of its first signature beer - the Buffalo Stout. In honour of the Sint Livinus festivities, Van den Bossche Brewery created the Pater Lieven range of authentic abbey beers that contributed widely to its success. Today, the brewery continues to brew delicious and flavourful beers that everyone can enjoy!
