let's tap into their story!

Eagle Bay Brewing Co is a microbrewery, restaurant, and vineyard tucked away on a family farm in the northwestern corner of the Margaret River wine region. The establishment has been owned and operated by third generation siblings - Nick, Astrid, and Adrian d’Espeissis - since 2010. The property, however, has been in the family since 1950 and the farm is still operated by the trio’s father - John.
Eagle Bay’s beers are handcrafted and brewed in small batches in the brewery’s solar-powered brewhouse. Its beers are made with only four ingredients; freshly harvested rainwater, malted barley, hops, and yeast. Eagle Bay swears off the nasty stuff - preservatives - and fully commits to creating quality beers that are balanced and sessionable.
The brewery also uses fruits from their 25 year-old vineyard to create a selection of Eagle Bay Vineyard wines, including the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, and the Chardonnay.

Eagle Bay’s history

Eagle Bay is the ideal location for a dreamy beach vacation, with its turquoise bays and pristine white sand - but it wasn’t always like this. Despite its stunning beauty, the Cape Naturaliste area remained largely untouched until the region’s wine boom in the 1980s.

When Jean d’Espeissis - the siblings’ grandfather - made a trip to Cape Naturaliste in the late 1940s, it was terribly inconvenient and time-consuming, but now, you can easily reach Meelup Beach, the lighthouse and Eagle Bay from Dunsborough in roughly seven minutes!
In 1949, Jean had inherited some cash and was looking to purchase a farm. All it took was one fishing trip to Bunker Bay and Jean was suddenly a proud owner of a couple of small farms. As time passed, the trio’s father - John - inherited the farm but saw that its value was gradually declining; he knew that the farm would not be able to support their family in the future.

The d’Espeissis family wondered what they should do with the farm, and in the mid-2000s, the idea of starting a brewery popped up. Over the period from 2007 to 2010, the initial idea of a brewery was slowly transformed into reality. One of the siblings, Nick, started experimenting with homebrew kits, filling the family’s garage with countless homebrew bottles.

Quality, quality, quality

Back then, Nick would create beer for the builders during the building process, testing various recipes on them. Their favourite was his Kolsch, which has now become the brewery’s most popular and successful drink to date.

At Eagle Bay, quality is the main priority; the brewery takes extra steps to ensure that it never releases a bad batch out into the world. In fact, some would even say that the brewers at Eagle Bay are obsessed with quality, with Nick leading the charge!
